Narender Dhawan: The Voice of the Unheard

Journalist | Humanitarian | Catalyst for Social Change

आवाज तुम्हारी – कलम हमारी” (Your Voice, My Pen) is more than a slogan for Narender Dhawan; it is a lifelong mission. An accredited journalist with a warrior’s heart, Dhawan has spent over three decades at the intersection of fearless reporting and selfless social service, proving that a pen, when backed by conviction, can save lives.

A Legacy of Fearless Journalism

Since 2008, as the Editor-in-Chief of Delhi Uptodate, Narender Dhawan has transformed community news into a platform for justice. His accreditation by the Delhi Government since 2012 is a testament to his professional integrity.

  • The Frontline Hero: When the world retreated into lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dhawan stepped onto the streets. His high-stakes ground reporting and critical interview with the late Dr. K.K. Aggarwal disseminated vital preventive strategies that are credited with saving thousands of lives.
  • A Shield for the Vulnerable: Dhawan is known for his “Midnight Interventions.” Whether it was securing justice for families when a wedding was abandoned at the last minute or reporting from the heart of the Tis Hazari Police-Advocate conflict, he has consistently risked his personal safety to uphold the rule of law.
  • The Statesman’s Chronicler: His intellectual depth is reflected in his profound dialogues with India’s greatest minds, including two exclusive interviews with the “People’s President” Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (2010, 2012) and the legendary poet Gulzar (2017).

Humanitarian Leadership & Global Impact

Narender’s commitment to humanity extends far beyond the newsroom. A veteran of Lions Clubs International since 1991, he has become a symbol of selfless service on the global stage.

  • The Polio Crusade: In a rare display of inter-organizational synergy, Dhawan utilized his Lions Presidency to lead the Pulse Polio Eradication Program. By putting children’s health above organizational branding, he played a key role in one of India’s greatest public health victories.
  • Decorated Service: His tireless efforts have earned him numerous National and International Awards from Lions International, marking him as a leader who leads by example.
  • Editorial Visionary: He has shaped the narrative of service as the Editor of We Serve Times and a core member of The Lions Magazine editorial team.

Roots & Academic Foundation

A true son of Delhi, Narender Dhawan’s journey began in the historic lanes of Pahari Dhiraj and the classrooms of Shastri Nagar.

  • Satyawati College (Delhi University): B.A. Political Science (Honors) 1984-87.
  • YWCA, New Delhi: Diploma in Journalism, 1989.

His academic background in Political Science combined with his journalistic training provided the lens through which he views the world: as a place where every citizen deserves a voice.
